Thanks for the comments Siyang, Jean, Tetsu, Daryl & Feline.
With this shot he was just sitting there and I smiled at him and pointed at my camera and he nodded. I didn't take the shot at that time instead I went away for 15 minutes. When I returned I focused on a spot the same distance away without pointing at him and walked up to just behind him to meter his spot. Then I walked away again wandered around and came back when I noticed he was sitting in an interesting way and took the shot.

Great take on the often-overlooked figure in Singapore - the uncles at out kopitiams. :)
Thanks Bren! I'd love to do a series on them. Have fun dancing!
nice photo, well-captured expression!
Good stuff! I linked to this pic on Tomorrow
His eyes are impressive!
Nice shot!
I think this year will be a good year when I see his eyes...
Très belle photo ! Triste malheureusement ! On aimerait bien donner un peu de chaleur à ce vieillard !
wow Jon... nice work, very well taken. I'm definitely coming back here again to view more of your people pictures :p
btw, how did you take this pic? did you ask him to pose?

sounds like you stalked your 'prey' and caught him at the right moment..
I didn't know so much was involved in taking this shot, but it sure paid off! Thanks for sharing your experience
i like it.
it's a natural portrait taken in a place we are familiar with and yet taken for granted.
